Most recently we’ve seen a lot of examples of implementation of Houdini procedural assets into Unreal Engine 4 workflow. Probably one of the best examples of this marriage is the work by Anastasia Opara. She actually published a series of tutorials on this topic (but they are paid). Now we have new free tutorial coming from 3d and technical artist Oskar Świerad (Tech Art Aid). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5LXIApQmzA It’s a 30-minute journey into the workflow, which allows you to generate realistic buildings in Unreal Engine 4 in seconds. This tutorial covers the main things you need to do in Houdini, how to…

Marmoset has released Marmoset Toolbag Scene Importer, a free add-on for importing scenes created in Toolbag, its real-time rendering toolkit, into Unreal Engine. The new importer is designed to save time reworking assets that have been previewed using Toolbag when importing them into UE4 to check that they display correctly in-game. Export Toolbag scenes to UE4 with automatic material and Blueprint creation Marmoset Toolbag Scene Importer automatically loads Toolbag content into Unreal Engine, setting up materials and creating an optional Blueprint object for the scene. The tool imports meshes and textures, but not scene objects, such as cameras, fog or…

Substance Designer is not a very easy program to get into, although Allegorithmic has done a lot of changes and updates, making it more approachable for 3d artists. Still some help is almost welcomed and Josh Lynch is here to help for sure. He prepared a long video tutorial, which will teach you to learn how to create a realistic sand material inside of Substance Designer. It centers on the creation of realistic materials, which could be used in games or any other 3d production. Here are just a couple of things Josh is going to touch in his tutorial:…

Ubisoft closed a global partnership deal with SpeedTree for Games to ensure that all development teams have access to the game industry’s most popular vegetation modeling and rendering software. Ubisoft and SpeedTree have worked together before. The new contract just extends the partnership and grants access to the SpeedTree-generated vegetation to a broad array of Ubisoft® studios. This basically means you’re going to see SpeedTree assets in future installments of Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six. This is quite understandable since Ubisoft creates some of the biggest open world projects with vast amounts…

We just came across this share on twitter by Andrei Ghenoiu showing off what seems to be his first attempt at making rocks made in Blender and rendered in CryEngine. We have to say that for a first attempt this is pretty much spot on – thanks Andrei, hoping to see more from you in the future. https://twitter.com/OnYourOwn_Game/status/805482221943607301 Please be sure to leave a comment below or even show your appreciation by retweeting/liking the above tweet by the original author Andrei Ghenoiu.
