Take a look at a UV island packing add-on for Blender called “ShotPacker” by Gumroad user ambi. The developer implemented an algorithm for packing UVs quite a bit tighter than Blender does it. Installation: Use “Install Add-on from File…” in Blender User Preferences/Add-ons and navigate to packer.zip. Then turn it on in the add-ons tab. Features and requirements: Includes parameters to set iteration count and island margin. Currently only works on meshes with no ngons or corrupted data. Doesn’t support overlapping UV. If the mesh has double vertices the algorithm has unexpected behaviour. It’s best to remove doubles before running…

Unreal Engine users face problems when it comes to rotation manipulators with ability of free rotation, because the Epic’s engine has no such thing. Animating controllers with a default rotation gizmo is tough, so Ilgar Lunin has developed a tool to solve this problem. The tool can rotate multiple objects in their own local space. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFIkqYpjm4I Hey, what’s going on guys! My name is Ilgar Lunin and i’d like to discuss with you rotation behaviour in unreal editor. My goal is to figure out – do people want this? And if so, attract as much attention as possible in order…

We often hear that Substance Designer can be a bit tricky to figure out, if you’re not accustomed to it. However, it’s never late to learn. Most recently prolific 3d artist Vitaly Okulov has published a video recording of him building the stylised rock material in SD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jk8H4moumZo What’ great about this project is that he takes the material from the very beginning and you can literally see all the actions he performs. There are no comments, and that’s a huge bummer. It would be better to have a decent commentary to understand the project better. Another issue is that…

Magdalena Dadela‘s goblin is amazing. The project is a brilliant example of the modern character with an amazing texturing work and a beautiful final setup. The coolest thing, though, is that Magdalena is constantly breaking down the process behind this character, giving away Marmoset Toolbag 3 scene and Substance Painter file. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ywhVkZBtq8 Allegorithmic has presented the second part of its sessions from GDC 2017 that features a talk on the texturing process behind goblin. So, get the free file and start creating your own character. Make sure to check out her page too. Source: Allegorithmic
